Where Communication Acts Intersect the Soul While researching nonverbal behaviors in worship contexts I facilitated five student focus group discussions and hosted an expert interview. The results indicated that nonverbal behaviors in a mandated worship context are fostered not only by the person's prior worship experience, but also by the environmental cues. Ultimately, these nonverbal responses serve to reflect social and personal identity. In February of 2012 I submitted the first draft of my research, We Stand and Lift Up Our Hands, to the OU Sooner Communications conference where it was accepted and then presented in February of 2012. A continuation of the same research, Where Communication Acts Intersect the Soul, was submitted to the National Communication Association where it was accepted and presented in Washington D.C., at the NCA Convention in November 2013. A link to the current draft is available on the right. Group Dynamics In the fall of 2012, a project was completed to explore the notion of group dynamics. This semester long project required another group project in which the group “got to know” a community on Oklahoma Baptist University’s campus and then sought to find solutions to improve the community. The project provided experiential learning in the process of group dynamics. I was able to recognize how I worked in a group setting. Also, this allowed me to see ways in which I could improve in working with others. A link to the finished project is on the right. Conflict is a Dance In the fall of 2012, for the communication and conflict course I wrote a term paper assessing a conflict of my choosing. My love for stories and movies prompted me to assess the conflict between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice (2005). The communication and conflict course, as well as the term paper, have given me the ability to assess a conflict interaction; uncovering the true nature of the conflict, discovering triggering events, conflict styles, goals within a conflict, and power dynamics. A link to the assessment of the conflict between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth is found on the right. News Reporting In the Spring of 2014 I served as a member of the News Reporting class at Oklahoma Baptist University. A link to some of my published news stories is found on the right Graphic Design At Oklahoma Baptist University my minor area of interest was in Graphic Design. I was able to use the skills learned in my graphic designs classes to make promotion posters for on campus events. I created the poster on the right for an on campus show in which I was responsible for directing. Details about this event can be found on my Resume/CV. |
